Founded by Charlotte Armitage in 2013, the academy was created to provide affordable and reputable actor training in the north of England and as an alternative to London based drama school education.

Charlotte adds: “Traditionally training to become a screen actor has involved moving cities, giving up work or study and compromising life commitments. Studying with YAFTA means none of those things are true. At YAFTA, we provide comprehensive and accessible actor training that fits around other commitments. You don’t have to give up your job or move away from home. At YAFTA, training to be a professional screen actor is a viable option for everyone and anyone.”

YAFTA’s syllabus is meticulously designed and delivered by professional actors and acting coaches who trained at some of world’s leading drama schools. The courses are created to address the specific demands of acting in front of cameras.   • Introduction to Acting for Screen: This 16-week course is ideal for beginners who are eager to explore the world of acting for film and TV. It provides a solid foundation by introducing students to the fundamentals of on-screen acting techniques, script analysis, and character development.
  • Acting for Screen Diploma: Designed for those wanting to progress their career as a professional actor this 18-month, blended learning Spotlight Accredited course dives deeper into the intricacies of screen acting, combing the theoretical understanding of the craft and the practical realities of the industry. Students will learn advanced techniques, including emotional range, script analysis, and the art of conveying complex emotions on screen.

Scholarships and payment plans are available for students to apply for, making the training even more accessible for many aspiring screen actors.
